The plein air oil paintings of Tom Martino, inspired by
the light and color of the rocky coastline of New England, are eagerly sought after by numerous private collectors. No matter what the subject, his impressionistic yet representational interpretations
blend tonalist with impressionist techniques, and invite a shared personal celebration of color and light. A member of the International Plein Air Painters(IPAP), and the American Impressionist
Society(AIS)., he also paints internationally and exhibits his vibrant oil paintings in both solo as well as group shows. Although he drew with pencil all his life, Tom really began his education as an ala prima
oil painter with instruction from Patrick Corso, a realist painter in 1981. Later (1990), he studied with Daniel Greene (portraiture), Ted Jacobs (Restructured Realism, 1995), David Leffel (Still Life
and Portraiture, 1996), Frank Covino (Renaissance Technique), and David Lussier (plein air oils). He has studied and painted internationally at The La Romita School of Art (Terni, Italy), at the Art School of the
Aegean (Samos, Greece), with Ted Jacobs (Les Cerq Sous Passavant, France), and recently, with Charles Gruppe (Costa Del Sol, Spain, the French Riviera and the Canadian Maritimes). Tom also participates in
"Paint Outs", the most recent event being "Paint the Town 2008" in St. Petersburg, Florida.Tom has also taken coursework at the Lyme Academy of Fine Art (Landscape Painting with Jerry
Weiss), at the Rhode Island School of Design (Figure Painting and Silverpoint) and with Br. Michael Dundin (Oil Pastel). (In addition to his art education, Tom has a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematical Sciences.)
Tom has taught painting workshops in both Rhode Island and Connecticut and performed demonstrations in portraiture before local Art Associations. In addition to IPAP and AIS, he is also
