In 1959 the East Greenwich Art Club was founded by local artists who came together to encourage each other in their art. The purpose was to foster the production, exhibition and sale of works of art by local and other artists by arranging lectures and discussions on art. For the last fifty years the Club has aided and contributed to the furtherance of artistic education among the school children of East Greenwich by offering an East Greenwich Art Club Student Award each year to a deserving and talented student.
